PPE Competent Person's Course
This course covers all the relevant aspects to certify you as a competent person to inspect PPE. With a slant towards the off-ground adventurous activities sector, this course is designed for anyone who selects, manages or inspects PPE. The course allows some real hands-on experience of the equipment while investigating signs of damage most commonly found.
This course has been designed to give candidates the knowledge and understanding to become inspectors of PPE, height safety and rescue equipment which is commonly found in the off-ground adventure activities sector. The course aims to give candidates the information required to:
- create and operate a PPE management system;
- complete routine visual and operational inspections of PPE;
- make decisions based on wear of equipment, or unexpected damage.
The course comprises of 2.5 days’ training, involving practical and theoretical topics relating to PPE inspections, management, and legislation. The afternoon of the final day shall involve a practical assessment of the candidate’s ability to inspect PPE and record their findings. The range of equipment and practices used in this sector is vast and as such this course cannot cover every piece of equipment, management system and inspection criteria, however the course is designed to give a broad overall view of the principles and common materials and recording principles.
Whilst the course forms the basis of becoming a competent person regarding inspecting and managing height safety and rescue PPE, it is incumbent upon the individual to ensure their continued currency and competency, through CPD and further training may be required for specialist items.

- Requirements - Participants should already be familiar with the function of equipment used in the outdoor sector, such as helmets, harnesses, rescue devices, adventure park safety systems and connectors
